A listed historical monument, the Castle of the Dukes of Brittany is the city's most important historic building and its oldest, with the Cathedral.

As well as the need to protect the monument in the long term and to showcase its architectural quality, the aim of the project, led by Marie-Hélène Jouzeau, Chief Heritage Curator and Director of the Castle of the Dukes of Brittany, has been to match the site's heritage elements - an exceptional building and a series of collections - to the expectations of modern visitors in all their diversity.

The programme has given the site new purpose and a contemporary cultural content..

A new generation cultural facility

The restored monument houses a new museum, awarded the Musée de France quality mark, devoted to the history of the castle and the city.

The city is revealed, with perspectives on its past, present and future; the Castle and its new museum actively participate in a contemporary view of heritage.

Temporary exhibitions, lectures, and a full arts programme will complete the site's cultural offer.
