Tourism and Disability Label

label T& H

In January 2011, the Castle of the Dukes of Brittany received the Tourism and disability label for the 4 types of disabilities ( visual, hearing, mobility and mental)

The castle is a rare example in France of a maximum level of accessibility in a 15th century building transformed into a museum. Only the coffee shop and the bookshop haven't been labelled. The boutique and bookshop yet offers to buy adapted works (in Braille, in French sign language...) and the coffee shop is accessible to people with reduced mobility. The accessibility to these services will be gradually reinforced. If there remain some accessibility constraints related to the historical monument, the castle strives to provide the best access to the content of the museum with a cultural offer (mediation tools, different types of visits) adapted to individual or group visitors.

Set up in 2001, the Tourism and Disability label is a quality trademark for reception. It identifies the accessibility of vacation, leisure or cultural spots for the people who need some adjustments for major deficiencies (mobility, vision, hearing or mental). Its goal is to provide reliable, descriptive and objective information of the accessibility of the sites and of tourist installations taking into account the 4 types of disabilities and to develop a tourist offer adapted to disabled people. This label is the result of a partnership between the Ministry of tourism, professionals of tourism and associations representing people with disabilities.
